The Self-directed Method for Children
Montessori as Folklore
The Montessori Method is drawn by particular people. Those people or groups could be religious or could be holistic. Either way, Montessori schooling is not for everyone and if this is a community of people who have the same views or interests, than this must be a folklore group. Folklore is many things as Martha Sims describes in her book called, "Living Folklore". She states that folklore, "Involves values, traditions, and ways of thinking and behaving. It’s about art. It’s about people and the way people learn. It helps us learn who we are and how to derive meaning from the world around us" (Sims 2011). Folklore is more than popular music or bands, it is demonstrated through many things materialistically, nonverbally, and more. Therefore, Montessori is a great example of a group of people who believe in the same benefits of Montessori.
